Is Spring officially here now? I feel like it might be! It’s getting warmer and I can hear birds in the morning, so I’m gonna go ahead and assume it’s Spring. Even if it is *technically* not until the last week of March. But oh well! A new season brings new goals, both business-related and personal. Here are mine!
To release a fabulous women’s edition of Paperfox
I’m editor-in-chief of a literary magazine, Paperfox Lit Mag where our main aim is to celebrate literature and shed some well-deserved light on the work of ameteur authors and artists. Contributors can submit creative work like poetry, prose, short fiction, extracts, excerpts, scripts, photography, illustration, fine art and more by submitting through firstname.lastname@example.org. If you’d like to know more about submitting to the mag, click here. So, with Paperfox, I’ve produced plenty of issues I’m incredibly proud of alongside my team. But April’s issue theme is feminism, and I really want to do this theme justice. I’m so ready to give my absolute all to this issue, as the women’s issue deserves to receive the whole team’s best efforts.
To put my all into my new project with my friend Lauren; ‘JeTuNous Magazine’ and make it great!
Me and my friend Lauren have co-founded a magazine together; JeTuNous Magazine, of which I will be Senior Editor. I’ll be properly revealing JeTuNous on my blog soon, when we have our cover ready, a little more content and the website is fully furnished. For now, all I can really tell you is that it will be a ‘feminsim, fashion, and topical issues’ mag! Our aim is to celebrate style while spreading the good word of feminism and showing style outside of the ‘norm’. For instance, we’ll be featuring plus size models, models with facial hair, and writing articles about self love and confidence alongside fashion shoots. We hope to make JeTuNous a safe space where feminists who love fashion can feel represented and entertained! If you’d like some more information on JeTuNous or would like to pitch an article, email me at email@example.com.
To continue my podcast and get more brilliant guests on
I love doing the podcast so much! I’m so annoyed at myself for delaying it for the time that I did. I was scared it wouldn’t work out and nervous about interviewing people I admired that I didn’t know very well, but once the conversation starts it flows so easily and I feel completely relaxed. I’m very mad at myself for not starting earlier, but very happy that I’ve actually started now! If you have in project in mind that you keep putting off due to nerves, just get it done! The first one is always the hardest and nerve-racking, but once that’s over, it starts to feel easier and eventually becomes second nature! You can’t improve if you never start.
If you enjoy my podcast, please vote for it in the British Podcast Awards by typing ‘Beth’s Bookshelf’ on the page here.
To fix my sleeping pattern
For those of you who don’t know this already, I have PTSD and Insomnia. Two disorders that cause a wholeeeee lot of issues with sleep. Underneath all of this, I’ve never been good at sleeping. Not for as long as I can remember. So, personally I think it was cruel to curse me with sleep disorders when I was already shit at it, but what happens, happens! I didn’t do too bad with sleep in February. I had a few late nights and pulled a couple of all-nighters which caused me to miss a few lectures. But there was nothing incredibly drastic. In Spring, I’m going to try and go two months with my sleeping pattern together, without interruptions, flashbacks, insomnia or anxiety (my record to date is one month, which happened last April!). I’m planning to a blog post or maybe a video on what products and routines I use to help me sleep. If that’s something that would be helpful to you, or you’d enjoy that sort of content, let me know in the comments below!
To improve my financial situation
Without going into too much detail (some of my life needs to stay at least a little private) I am sooooo skint. March was not a good month for me in terms of finances. And as I said to my boyfriend the other day, I feel like everything in my life is the right place except for my financial situation. My friends and family are wonderful, I’m creating a lot of cool content and being presented with a lot of cool opportunties. Generally, I’ve been extremely happy this year! But unfortunately, the bank balance isn’t reflecting the same enthusiasm! It’s looking saaaaaaaaad. I know money isn’t everything, and all students have months when the bank balance is bleak, but I’d like to start saving towards my future. So, it’s time to start putting effort into monetising my content, getting my work out there, and applying for jobs that pay!
To put more effort into my blog photography (well, my blog in general)
Recently, I’ve been having a bit of a blog identity crisis, which you can read all about here. Generally, I just feel like I’m not 100% authentic on my blog. I feel like a lot of the content I post is lazy, and frankly a little clickbaity. I wrote about what I thought would get be pageviews, which involved lots of blogging related tutorials, list-based posts and articles that had been done before, a million times over. That’s not what I want my blog to be. I want my blog to be a place where I share my own art and my personality is injected into everything. I’m still going to post advice, but it’s going to be from the heart and very personal. This change in content also means working a lot harder on my blog photography. I’ve even bought some lighting so I’m dead serious about it haha! I already have loads of shots in mind that I’m going to attempt – wish me luck!
To start a YouTube channel???
Okay, okay, okay. This isn’t for definite. But there are some things that don’t come across as well in blog posts as they could in video. There are some topics that are just begging to be in video form, so I might give it a shot! I have poetry and prose that I’ve created and just casted aside because I’m not sure what to do with it. I don’t want to post any of it on my blog for copyright reasons (I’d like to publish a collection one day, you say) but I thought it would be nice to get some animators or cinematographers on board and make little videos to go with my spare poems and prose, and create some nice visuals! I’m also considering uploading my podcast epiosdes to YouTube to give listeners a little more accessability, but I’m not sure on that one. Honestly, now’s looking like the worst time to start a channel with all the problems with YouTube at the moment, but I might give it a go anyway.
To get a new hair colour
I’m dying my hair! It’s not going to be anything drastic, but I want to work towards my natural colour (at least, the last natural hair colour I had) and I haven’t been able to find it on a box anywhere. I guess it’s a bit too natural. In the mean time, I’m dying my hair just a few shades darker blonde! I’m pretty excited to have a more natural colour, as daft as that sounds!
To throw my all into everything
I’m done with doing a half arsed job of everything. I love taking things to the very maximum that I can, and I’ve been holding back on that a little in recent times, and just doing what’s expected of me. I want to blow people’s expectations and create excellent things, so that’s what I’m going to do!
So those are my goals for the Spring! What are yours? Leave 2-3 goals in the comments below, I’d love to read them and see if I can assist in any way!
