Feel More Awake Everyday with These Steps

I turned 20 a couple of weeks ago, and I’m already starting to feel way more tired every day than I did a couple of years ago. Nothing too dramatic has changed in my schedule, I’m just knackered! The most common phrase I hear from my family and friends recently is “I’m fine, I’m just tired”. I know that’s the way life is, but everyone seems to be particularly tired all the time recently. It’s not much of a surprise considering how much pressure people are under now, and how busy our lives can get. At first, I thought constantly feeling tired was something we were just going to have to get used to. But, after a little research and a bit of a routine change, I realised that we should still feel awake and ready to go no matter how much we’re doing. I’ve compiled a list of little lifestyle changes you can make to help yourself feel more awake day to day; all are trialled and tested by me!

Drink Lots of Water

If you’re feeling tired all the time, the chances are you’re not hydrated enough. If I’m not drinking enough water, I tend to feel moody, groggy and much less energised. Other side effects of not drinking enough water are fatigue, bad headaches, not getting enough sleep and feeling sick. Sound familiar? Then start drinking more water! I now stock up on bottled Volvic flavoured water and drink at least 1.5L each day to keep me going. If you work full-time, make sure you keep a glass of water topped up by your desk or carry a bottle around if you’re allowed. If not, take regular canteen trips for a quick drink! Keep sipping throughout the day, and you’ll probably be really surprised by what an effect it really has on your mood!

Go to Sleep

I know. It’s easier said than done, but you’ve got to sort that sleeping pattern out! I’m planning a super in-depth video on all the things I do and the products I use to help myself get to sleep at night, as sleep is something I’ve struggled with massively in the past! The best advice I’ll give, for now, is to create a night time routine, and stick to it religiously!

Eat Healthier Food

I’ll admit, I’m not brilliant at this one. I’m a serial-takeaway-eater. But eating the wrong food can have negative effects on your energy levels and your mood. Make sure you’re actively including fruit and vegetables and protein in your meals. It really makes a difference to how you feel each day.

Exercise

I know it’s scary, but try to implement a little bit of exercise into your life. I’m really not great at this one. I joined a gym and tried to do little workouts from home, but it’s difficult to stay motivated. My only recommendation is to try and exercise without the intention of losing weight, then it’s easier to stay motivated.

    Agreed. Most people don’t pay attention to how much water they drink, and it’s important! Staying hydrated makes me feel less hungry, and my skin looks great!

      Water is so important! It’s the most simple yet effective thing you can do to improve your health!
